Kimberly Heatherington speaks with Father Tad about the issue of physician-assisted suicide, now legal in California. He discusses how legalizing physician-assisted suicide is just the first step of putting into law the lie that there is such a thing as a life not worth living. He discusses the need to provide support, rather than toxins, to people who are struggling. He also notes how members of the disabled community see the handwriting on the wall, and sense the escalating pressure to make an early exit. They discuss the various "smoke signals" emanating from long-respected institutions like professional medical societies, health care systems, insurance companies and the courts suggest that the evening twilight is poised to give way to the darkness. He stresses the need to rekindle awareness of the goodness and beauty of human life, and safeguarding supportive human relationships that bind us to one another until natural death.
